Description/Aim
What is the ICCS?
The International Certificate in Computer Studies (ICCS) is a
foundation course in IT. The ICCS introduces students to a broad
area of topics relating to the use of IT in business, enabling them
to move on to further study or obtain employment using IT in a
business environment.
Centres delivering this course can attract those who are just
embarking on an IT education and adults wishing to change their
career.
Who is ICCS for?
This course has been designed so that no prerequisites are required
and it is suitable for anyone from a school leaver to a mature adult
looking to change their career.
It can be taken as a full time course, part time course or as
individual modules. It can also be studied for in classrooms or
online.
ICCS Course Structure
The course is typically of six months duration when studied for on a
full time basis. The course consists of five taught modules:
ICCS Assessment Methods
Four of the modules are assessed via an automated test, supplied to
centres by NCC Education. This software automatically administers
and marks the test enabling students to have their results
instantly. The remaining module is assessed via a closed book
multiple-choice paper based examination, supplied by NCC Education.

Modules
1.
Fundamental Concepts of Computer:
This gives
candidates a broad foundation in the fundamental concepts of
computing. It enables students to make effective and knowledgeable
judgements about the use of standard computer systems in business.
2.
English for Business Communication:
This teaches students how to use standard business English to suit
the needs of computing. It also raises a student's level of English
language competence to that required by the ICCS follow-on-course -
the International Diploma in Computer Studies (IDCS).
3.
PC Compotence:
Ensures candidates understand best practice. This module increases
the productivity of all employees who use computers in their
workplace.
4.
Basic Maths for Computing:
Teaches the mathematical concepts underlying computer-related
processes and developments and how to apply mathematical skills to
common problems.
5.
Introduction to Programming & Databases:
Teaches the fundamental concepts of computer programming, database
design and use, and general design techniques.

GCSE O Levels + 2 A Levels or equivalent.
